2023 IAG Merit Scholarship: Diverse Backgrounds

A merit scholarship available to students who meet the rubric criteria and who have documentation of membership into one or more of the following groups:

  • Black

  • Indigenous People

  • Latinx

  • Resource-limited background (e.g. qualifying for free/reduced lunch, qualifying for Pell Grant)

  • *Additional documentation will be needed if you are selected as a finalist for this scholarship

Students should prepare all materials and an essay of 500-1000 words or a multimedia project (5 minutes or less) over one of the following prompts.

  1. Describe a specific experience where you accomplished a goal or reached an outstanding level of achievement. Describe what you learned through this process and how this might better prepare you for college.

  2. Imagine that you are talking to a gifted middle school student who is from the same traditionally underrepresented group as you. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for this student that you think will positively influence the likelihood of the child reaching his or her outstanding academic potential?

  3. Using examples from your experience as a student from an historically underrepresented population in gifted programming, provide recommendations to Indiana schools regarding how they can better support students who are both High Ability and from your historically underrepresented group.
